About the Course
An introduction to screen-printing through photosensitive emulsion & paper stencils onto fabric. This will be a varied course with as much guidance, tutoring and direction as you need but also the opportunity to work in a self-directed way.
Week 1 & 2: You will be led through all processes with the chance for experimenting.
Week 3 & 4: You have the opportunity to take a more self-directed approach to the work, developing personal ideas through discussions, reflection and critique.
Week 5: The final week will be focussing on final outcomes.
You will be able to take all work produced in the classes home with you at the end of the course.
What will I learn?
During the workshop you will experiment with a range of different textile print techniques, using your own photosensitive emulsion stencils on your silkscreen, drawn or found images. These images will be turned into a photographic stencil to create a finished piece of printed textiles for example scarves or cushion covers, t-shirts.
• You will be taught how to prepare images
• Screen preparation
• Pigment preparation with opaque and translucent binders
• Identifying fabrics
• Repeat Design: put pattern into repeat or placement motifs
• You will be provided with all sample fabrics but for your final piece, it's up o you to source your chosen fabric.
How will the course be delivered?
You will be based in Print Studio, where you will develop your creative ideas and print your own fabric. Selina uses a multidisciplinary approach to screen-printing and encourages originality of ideas. She will support you in developing a good standard of print and also allow you to experiment in creative ways until you achieve a result you’re happy with.
How will I know how I am doing?
At the start of the course, we discuss your ideas and intended outcome. There will be constant supervision and group critiques of the work produced. There will be specific aims and objectives for the first two weeks. Week 3-5 guidance throughout the classes as you develop your ideas, one-to-one for specific guidance on your final outcome.
Do I need any experience?
